Crossing the Channel; French Impressionists in London, 1870- 1904

This talk links with the current ‘Impressionists in London’ exhibition at Tate Britain
The cultural distance between France and England has always been elastic. In this talk, Fiona tracks some of the artistic journeys made by Pissarro, Monet and Derain, as well as the more sustained stays by Dalou, Sisley and Legros. She explores interconnections with English artists and Art and asks why certain kinds of work travelled better than others.
